Teaching Collections

The primary function of the biology teaching collections are to facilitate the education of biology undergraduates. Collections include prepared slides as well as preserved, mounted, and living specimens. The numerous taxonomic groups included in the collections can be used during course laboratories or as demonstration aids during lecture. Some specimens may be used for outreach purposes.

Protists Amoebozoa, Ciliophora, Excavates, Myzozoa, Rhizaria, Stramenopiles, Other
Plants Charophytes, Chlorophytes, Rhodophytes, Bryophytes, Lycopodiophytes, Pteridophytes, Gymnosperms, Angiosperms (monocots, dicots), Living Greenhouse Collection
Fungi Ascomycetes, Basidiomycetes, Zygomycetes
Protostomes: Platyzoa, Mollusca, Annelida, Nematoida, Panarthropoda, Other

Deuterostomes: Echinoderms, Hemichordates, Urochordates, Cephalochordates, "Fish"(hagfish, lampreys, sharks, ray-finned fish), Tetrapods (amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals)

Please handle all specimens with care.

Directions for slide use:
  • Check out each slide type using the sign out sheet next to the slide cabinets (date, type, quantity, location).
  • Return the slides to the appropriate cabinet, tray, and slot within a week of check out and sign them back in.
  • Do not let the students retrieve or replace the slides themselves.
