Currently a graduate student in the College of Education at Idaho State University.
-Member of the Idaho Environmental Education Association.
I currently teach at Pocatello Community Charter School which is a public school that uses expeditionary Learning Outward Bound as its model for school reform. One of the things I love most about my job is the requirement to take kids out into the natural world on a regular basis for adventure and fieldwork. Throughout the year we hike, snowshoe, camp, and go rock climbing together.
How will you integrate an aspect of GK-12 and your partnership with graduate students
into your classroom?
I plan to use my fellow's expertise with plant biology to help us plant and transplant water plants for the Portneuf water reclamation area. This week we are studying the plant lifecycle and Heidi will accompany us on our afternoon hike and show the students the various stages of a plants lifecycle. Later in the year we will specifically study various ecosystems and will use Heidi's knowledge of the sagebrush steppe.
How has the GK-12 experience changed you, and how has your participation changed the GK-12 project?
