Highland High School
Currently working on a Masters of Natural Science degree.
Professional interests and goals: I enjoy learning about topics in Physics and Geology and how to relate these to High School aged students. My constant pursuit is to have these students challenge themselves to think critically and learn how to ask questions that will show me what they need to know to go further.
How will you integrate an aspect of GK-12 and your partnership with graduate students
into your classroom?
All of the projects that we implement will have a component that emphasizes the engineering aspects of the project as well as the Physics concepts. This will enable the students to see how engineers approach problems and how they have to work together. Another approach will be to bring in other ISU Physics and Engineering staff to present on special topics. This will provide the students with more exposure to how these fields are applied as well as some connections to ISU and possible careers.
The last application of Jake's skills will be to guide the students through a competition at ISU Engineering week. Jake will help by introducing the components of electrical circuits and their purpose. He will arrange for us to use the electronics lab at ISU to explore more about measurement of circuits as well as learning what ISU has to offer.
How has the GK-12 experience changed you, and how has your participation changed the GK-12 project?
