How will you continue to integrate an aspect of GK-12 and your partnership with graduate students into your teaching, philosophy, etc.?
I will continue to use the labs we have developed and I will continue to try original research with my advanced classes. We have created a large notebook full of labs we tried and some we did not try this year due to time restrictions. One of the most important things I will try to continue is the ISU undergraduate research symposium. Our students have done work researching Nepenthes sp. and the mechanisms of digestion. The students are creating a poster and have been accepted to present, the students are really excited and we are very proud of their efforts. This will be the second time my students have entered and hopefully the second time they win.

Another exercise I plan to push is our environmental awareness projects. Students learned about our responsibilities to Earth and how we have negatively impacted Earth, students have also learned how to change our footprint and become better stewards of the Earth's resources. Students even started a letter writing campaign to our local government to start so local actions.

I hope the connections I have made through my fellow to other scientist will continue and these connections will become collaborators on future labs.

How has the GK-12 experience changed you, and how has your participation changed the GK-12 project?
Hopefully I have added more tools to my tool box. I am trying to spread the tools to my coworkers and other teachers I know. I have also tried to encourage fellow teachers to apply for GK12 fellows. Having a fellow is a double edged sword. Having a fellow rekindles my desire to do research and go back to being a fisheries biologist, but having a fellow is also revitalizing my teaching.
