In response to a growing need for Engineering Technicians in the energy sector, the College of Technology at Idaho State University has established the Energy Systems Technology and Education Center (ESTEC) on the Idaho State University campus in Pocatello, Idaho.
ESTEC offers a unique approach to educating students by providing the specific knowledge and skills needed in energy production. The skills requirements have been developed in partnership with energy utilities and vendors to assure that program graduates enter the workforce with the precise skills required by the energy industry in a broad spectrum of electrical, oil, gas, renewable, and allied manufacturing sectors. Students learn through traditional classroom experience as well as through extensive laboratory exercises. Electrical generation technologies addressed include nuclear, coal, gas, and renewable technologies.
ESTEC offers one Basic Technical Certificate, two Intermediate Technical Certificate, and six Associate of Applied Science degrees.

ESTEC has incredible support from industry, national organizations, and government agencies. That support comes in the form of financial support for the program, scholarships for students, equipment donation from industry, industry professionals donating their time, and much more. ESTEC is a public/private partnership between Idaho State University, Idaho National Laboratory, and Partners for Prosperity. Curriculum and laboratory resources were developed with external funding from the US Department of Labor and the National Science Foundation.

ISU’s ESTEC Receives Grant for National Science Foundation Scholarships
At least 35 incoming students will receive funding to attend Idaho State University's Energy Systems Technology and Education Center (ESTEC) beginning this fall, thanks to a $612,375 grant from the National Science Foundation.
The National Science Foundation Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math program (S-STEM) is funding ISU's five-year Energy Systems Scholars Project, which will allow in-state and out-of-state students to receive up to $4,000 per semester to earn an associate degree and pursue careers in the energy field. Scholarships are renewable for three semesters, and the project will also offer students the opportunity to work with faculty and alumni for work experience and career placement assistance. ESTEC's overall job placement rate is more than 90 percent for recent graduates.
The cutoff date for all Fall 2016 application materials to be received is August 1, 2016, but applications will begin to be reviewed during the summer. Apply as soon as possible.
