Idaho State University-Meridian confers record number of degrees at May commencement; Elizabeth Thompson selected top Student Excellence honoree

Doctor of Pharmacy graduate Elizabeth Sultania Thompson was named Idaho State University-Meridian's top Student Excellence honoree at commencement exercises May 13 at the Boise Centre in downtown Boise.

"I had an opportunity to meet all of the nominees and they were fantastic," she said, adding she was surprised when she heard her name announced. (more…)

Two Idaho State University anthropology students land internships with Smithsonian museums this summer

"I would live in a cardboard box if I could work at the Smithsonian (museums in Washington, D.C.)," said Jennifer Hernandez, an Idaho State University senior anthropology major with an emphasis in archeology, who graduated from Idaho Falls High School. "I still can't believe that I'm getting an internship with a stipend to go work there this summer." (more…)

Idaho State University Theatre and Dance to present world premiere of contemporary opera in Pocatello then California

The world premiere of "Double Blind Sided," a contemporary opera inspired, in part, by Franz Kafka's "The Trial" and Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition," will be performed at 7:30 p.m. May 22-25 in the Rogers Black Box Theatre in the Stephens Performing Arts Center.

There will be an additional matinee at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 25. A post-performance panel discussion with the composer, librettist and directors will be held Wednesday and Thursday, May 22-23. (more…)

That's the advice from Danson Hall who will walk at ISU's 2013 Commencement to receive her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. Hall, 27, who graduated from Blackfoot High School, followed her own advice earning both her doctoral and undergraduate degrees from ISU. (more…)

Idaho State University will confer 2,476 degrees, certificates at 2013 Commencement on May 11

A total of 2,364 graduates will receive 2,476 degrees and certificates during Idaho State University's spring commencement ceremonies, which will begin at 10 a.m. May 11 in Holt Arena.

Idaho State University-Meridian pharmacy researchers working on better drugs to fight cancer

Idaho State University-Meridian graduate assistant, Nicole Frank, is conducting research to understand the relationship between chemotherapy drugs and the toxicity they cause.

Frank, a microbiologist working on her Ph.D. in pharmacology, is helping Gem Pharmaceuticals, LLC of Birmingham, Ala., determine why a potential cancer drug currently in clinical trials appears to be less toxic than the chemotherapy drug doxorubicin, which is widely used to treat a variety of cancers but can lead to heart failure after long-term use. Idaho State University announces Laura Woodworth-Ney is new provost, vice president for academic affairs

Idaho State University has announced that Laura Woodworth-Ney is its new provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Woodworth-Ney, who has served as ISU associate vice president for academic affairs the past three years, was selected after a national search was carried out.  She will begin her duties June 24 replacing Barbara Adamcik, who has served as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs since June 2010. Three Idaho State University faculty members honored as 2013 Distinguished Faculty

Three Idaho State University faculty members were honored as Distinguished Faculty at an awards ceremony in April and will be honored at ISU commencement May 11.

They are Donna Lybecker, associate professor political science, Distinguished Teacher; Scott Anderson, professor of music, Distinguished Service Award; and Bruce Finney, professor of biological sciences, Distinguished Researcher. (more…)
