The 50th anniversary conference of the Idaho State Tax Institute will be held Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 in the Madeira Room of the Holiday Inn at 1399 Bench Road in Pocatello.
The event is sponsored by the Idaho State University College of Business, the Idaho State Bar Section of Taxation, Probate and Trust Law and the Idaho State Society of Certified Public Accountants.
More than 80 accountants and attorneys from throughout Idaho are expected to attend.
The conference will open at noon on Nov. 6. ISU President Arthur C. Vailas, Ph.D., will welcome the gathering and introduce Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) for an address on the tax policy outlook for the new U.S. Congress. (more…)

The Department of English and Philosophy at Idaho State University has established a new Ph.D. program in English and the teaching of English that will be offered beginning fall 2009.
The program will offer the only Ph.D. in English in the state of Idaho. The program, which integrates the study of literature and English pedagogy, will train students for teaching careers in English at two- and four-year colleges and universities. (more…)

A truck hauling an unknown chemical crashes on I-84 near Mountain Home, erupting into flames and emitting toxic fumes.
How do emergency and health-care workers in rural Idaho prepare for such emergencies? How can they care for the injured while protecting themselves and their surroundings from contamination?
These questions will be the focus of five training sessions conducted in Idaho’s rural communities in November by the federal Center for Domestic Preparedness and coordinated by Idaho State University-Boise’s Institute of Emergency Management or IEM. (more…)
Former Idaho State University pharmacy professor Leslie Devaud, Ph.D., will give the presentation “The Mind or the Brain” as the ISU Phi Kappa Phi 2008 Scholarly Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 in the Pond Student Union Building Salmon River Suite.
The overall topic of Devaud’s lecture will focus on the challenges of researching brain processes involved in addiction behaviors in the context of the mind versus the brain. (more…)
