Museum’s final RiverWalk to focus Oct. 18 on Bonneville Flood

Geologist and Idaho State University professor Paul Link, Ph.D., will lead an entertaining and informative RiverWalk Oct. 18. It will be the last of the season in Pocatello. Link will help participants explore the landforms left behind by the great Bonneville Flood when it washed through the Portneuf Valley 14,500 years ago. (more…)

ISU, Pocatello communities mourn death of Floyce Gallagher

The Pocatello and Idaho State University communities are mourning the death of Floyce Gallagher, wife of former Idaho State University Interim President Michael Gallagher.

A gunman shot and killed “Flo” Gallagher, 60, on Oct. 11 in Grand Junction, Colo., in front of the home of dentist Terry Fine, 61, a friend of the Gallaghers. Terry Fine was also shot and killed by the gunman. Michael Gallagher was not injured in the attack, according to news reports.

A public memorial for Flo Gallagher will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, in the Robinson Theater at Mesa State College in Grand Junction. 

Flo was remembered fondly by friends and coworkers. (more…)

ISU offers workshop on ‘Brain Fitness for Healthy Aging’ at Health Care Conference

Alvaro Fernandez, co-founder and CEO of SharpBrains, Inc., will lead a workshop as part of the Idaho Conference on Health Care, on “Cognitive and Emotional Training (Brain Fitness) for Healthy Aging” on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to noon inside the Pond Student Union Building at Idaho State University. Meth use is major topic at Idaho Conference on Health Care

The growing concern over meth use will be a major topic at this year’s Idaho Conference on Health Care Conference to be held Oct. 22-24 at Idaho State University. Substance abuse experts have prepared various presentations concerning the treatment and prevention of meth use and its effects on the family. (more…)

Idaho Conference on Health Care sessions to be broadcast to Boise, Twin Falls

Idaho State University Kasiska College of Health Professions will host the 21st Annual Idaho Conference on Health Care Wednesday, Oct. 22, through Friday, Oct. 24, in the Pond Student Union Building on the Pocatello campus.

Several conference sessions will be broadcast live to Boise and Twin Falls through ISU’s Distance Learning Network. (more…)

‘Biggest Loser’ adviser, uninsured expert to keynote ISU Health Conference Oct. 22-23

Weight loss and nutrition expert, Michael Dansinger, M.D., will be one of this year’s keynote speakers at the 21st annual Idaho Conference on Health Care, scheduled Wednesday, Oct. 22 through Friday, Oct. 24 at Idaho State University.

Dansinger will give the keynote address titled, “Beating Obesity: Mission Impossible,” on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m., in ISU’s Pond Student Union Building Ballroom. He will be joined by former “Biggest Loser” program contestant and local Pocatello resident Sarah Call.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, a second keynote address “How ‘the Uninsured’ Became an American Caste” will be presented by Susan Starr Sered, Ph.D., at 7 p.m. in the PSUB Salmon River Suite. That keynote address will be followed by a panel discussion on “The Uninsured.”

Both keynote addresses are free and open to the public. (more…)
