The Idaho State University Nepalese Students Association will present the third annual Nepalese Night on the theme “Faces of Nepal” at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in the Pond Student Union Ballroom.

The celebration will feature a dinner with a variety of traditional Nepalese-style dishes, three group dances, two cultural solo dances, a performance by “ISU’s own Nepalese rock band,” a fashion show and more. (more…)

The Idaho State University Janet C. Anderson Gender Resource Center has won a 2008-09 Campus Action Project grant from American Association of University Women (AAUW) for the Idaho State University Women’s Leadership Summit, which will target some of the educational barriers faced by women and girls from minority and low-income backgrounds. Idaho State University’s modern dance company I-MOVE will perform with the ISU Bengal Dancers to present “An Evening of Dance” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13, 14 and 19-21 in the James E. and Beverly Rogers Black Box Theatre located in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

The groups will perform diverse dance works created by ISU theatre and dance faculty as well as guest choreographers. (more…)

Team registrations for seventh through ninth grade students are now being accepted for the regional Science Olympiad scheduled March 7 that will held on the ISU Pocatello campus.

Several events celebrating Darwin Day are planned at Idaho State University Feb. 11-12, including a lecture on Darwin by internationally recognized evolutionary biologist Michael F. Whiting, research poster presentations on an evolutionary theme, a panel discussion, a teachers’ workshop and a film on the creationism-evolution debate.

These events are free and open to the public and are sponsored by the ISU Department of Biological Sciences, ISU Cultural Affairs Committee and the Idaho Museum of Natural History. (more…)

Roger Williams – according to Billboard magazine the greatest-selling pianist in history – will perform at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

Robert G. Orsi, chief executive officer of Borg Holdings, Inc., owners and operators of Sunrise Preschools, Tots Unlimited Preschools and Child Care Catering of Phoenix, Ariz., will be on the Idaho State University campus Feb. 2–4 as a special guest lecturer for the College of Business Executive-In-Residence program. His company operates 29 schools, employs 750 and serves 5,000 children daily. (more…)

Carl W. McIntosh, Ph.D., seventh president of Idaho State University, died of natural causes Monday, Jan. 19, at his home in Bozeman, Mont. He was 94. (more…)

Nominations are being sought for two Idaho State University faculty members to be honored at May 2009 commencement exercises. To be selected are the recipients of the Distinguished Teacher and the Distinguished Public Service Awards.

A third faculty member will be chosen as Distinguished Researcher by a different process. The three winners will receive certificates and cash awards at commencement. (more…)
