Idaho State University chosen as one of 10 Campaign College sites in U.S. to train young women to run for political office
Idaho State University has been selected as one of 10 Campaign College sites for 2010. Campaign College offers a day-long training that teaches college women how to run for and win student government positions at their schools.
Funded by the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the Women & Politics Institute and Running Start, this unique workshop leads the way in addressing the disparity between the high percentages of women in colleges and universities and the low representation of women in student government. Campaign College is the only program in the country that encourages and trains young women to run for student government positions on their college campuses. (more…)
New galleries coming to Idaho Museum of Natural History; walk-in store, galleries to be closed during transition
New galleries highlighting the Idaho Museum of Natural History’s increased emphasis on research will be constructed during winter and spring 2009-10. Because of this the museum’s galleries and IMNH's walk-in Museum Store will be closed from Dec. 18 to July 1.
Through Dec. 18, the Museum Store is offering a sale on its entire inventory on the following discount scale: a 10-percent discount on purchases of $1 to $24; a 15-percent discount on $25-$49; a 20-percent discount on $50-$75; and a 25-percent discount over $75. The museum’s E-store will not close and items from it can be ordered online via the link at http://imnh.isu.edu/. (more…)
ISU to host 2009 First LEGO League Regional Qualifier
Idaho State University’s College of Technology Electronics Department and the Energy Systems Technology and Education Center (ESTEC) will host the 2009 FIRST LEGO League Regional Qualifier on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4 and 5, at the Pond Student Union and Reed Gym in Pocatello.
More than 40 teams from Southeastern Idaho and Northern Utah are expected for the event. Teams of children, ages 9 to 14 have embarked on an exploration of the transportation system in the “Smart Move Challenge”. The teams have been working together since the Challenge was announced on Sept. 3. (more…)
ISU-Idaho Falls to host holiday benefit dinner for Haven Shelter on Dec. 4
A holiday benefit dinner for Haven Shelter in Idaho Falls is scheduled at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, in the Multipurpose Room of the Bennion Student Union at University Place, 1784 Science Center Drive, in Idaho Falls.
The benefit dinner is sponsored by the Associated Students of Idaho State University–Idaho Falls and all proceeds will benefit the Haven Shelter.
The traditional holiday dinner has been donated by Chartwells. The program will include a silent auction and entertainment. Contributors throughout Idaho Falls have donated a variety of gift certificates and prizes. (more…)
40th anniversary of ISU Rendezvous journal features wide array of writers, materials
Idaho State University’s new issue of Rendezvous is a great read, through 40 years of Idaho and regional history, politics and literature. The volume has just been released and is available from several local bookstores.
The first half of the 40th anniversary issue of Rendezvous, the Idaho State University Journal of Arts and Sciences, is a 562-page reprinting which features the writings of Charles Bilyeu, Beverly Bistline, Ford Swetnam and a variety of other well-known Idaho writers and intellectuals.

Drug-free workplace workshop set Dec. 2
The Pocatello office of the Idaho Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Idaho State University and the City of Pocatello are sponsoring a two-hour workshop for businesses seeking to establish drug-free workplace programs on Wednesday, December 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in city council chambers at Pocatello city hall. An array of student clubs and a rich variety of student activities make Idaho State University-Idaho Falls much more than a commuter school for those who want to take advantage of what’s offered at University Place.
On Veterans Day this year, for example, the Armed Forces Veterans Club at ISU-Idaho Falls helped organize a variety of events for the whole campus, including a flag-raising ceremony featuring the BYU-Idaho ROTC Color Guard, the landing of an Apache helicopter, a veterans panel discussion, a veterans presentation and free food for ISU students, staff, faculty, guests and their families in the Bennion Student Union.
