Idaho State University’s Energy Systems Technology and Education Center receives $1.5 million green job training grant

Two eastern Idaho colleges have received more than $1.6 million in renewable energy grants through the U.S. Department of Labor's Green Jobs Program as authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  The grants are part of the total $6 million awarded to the Idaho Department of Labor and its partners.

Idaho State University's Energy Systems Technology and Education Center (ESTEC) will receive $1.5 million. Of that, a portion will be used to create and provide a nine-month renewable energy technician program.  Students completing the program will be certified as renewable energy technicians. With additional classes, they can receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in wind engineering or mechanical engineering technology or pursue a Bachelor of Applied Science degree. (more…)

National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration at Idaho State University Feb. 20; preregistration deadline Feb. 10

The registration period is open for this year’s celebration in recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day that is scheduled from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Idaho State University Reed Gymnasium.

“Stay Strong – Play On” is the national theme for this year’s day and serves to acknowledge the importance of sport participation for women and girls. (more…)

Idaho State University Associate Degree Registered Nurse graduates receive 100 percent pass rate on national exam

The Associate Degree Registered Nurse (ADRN) program  at the ISU College of Technology received notification that all 2009 graduates of the ADRN program have achieved a 100 percent pass rate on the  National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX—RN).  (more…)

Idaho State University rodeo team Cowboy Ball, Auction set Feb. 12

The Idaho State University Rodeo Team will host the second annual Cowboy Ball and Auction on Friday, Feb. 12, at the Red Lion Hotel in Pocatello. Social hour will begin at 6 p.m. with a prime rib dinner being served at 7 p.m. (more…)

Idaho State University’s Attebery to deliver Fife Honor Lecture at Utah State; to present research in Minneapolis

ISU Oboler Library exhibiting artwork of artist Elise Erlandson

The Idaho State University Eli M. Oboler Library is exhibiting the artwork of local artist Elise Erlandson through the end of February.

Her work is included in an exhibit located in the display area of the library’s first floor near the reference desk. 

Erlandson has been involved in painting as well as other art mediums for nearly eight years. She has won first- and second-place prizes at local competitions for her work and has been noted by other local artists as an aspiring talent. (more…)

Idaho State University spring semester 2010 enrollment up nearly 15 percent; spring 10th-day enrollment surpasses fall 10th-day head count

Idaho State University's 10th-day spring 2010 semester enrollment of 14,486 students is up nearly 15 percent over last year's spring semester enrollment of 12,613, an increase of 1,873 students.

In addition, ISU's 10th-day spring semester enrollment is 993 students higher than its fall semester 2009 10th-day enrollment of 13,493 students.

"Idaho State University is rapidly becoming a school of first choice among students not only in Idaho but in the entire region," said Gary Olson, ISU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. "The professionals in academic affairs and in student recruitment have been working hard to recruit the best and brightest students for ISU, and this hard work has clearly paid off." (more…)

Theatre/Dance ISU to present ‘The Playboy of the Western World’ Feb. 5-6; play selected as ’showcase production’ for festival

Theatre/Dance ISU is reviving its production of "The Playboy of the Western World" and will present shows at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5-6 at the Idaho State University Bilyeu Theatre in Frazier Hall.

The Irish comedy was chosen as a showcase production at this year's Rocky Mountain Theatre Association’s Festival in Helena, Mont.  Each year, the festival chooses among it entries for a performance to showcase for the participants at the festival. (more…)

ISU Sigma Xi to present scientific panel discussing ‘Can Carbon Capture and Storage Save King Coal’

A panel of scientists will discuss “Can Carbon Capture and Storage Save King Coal” at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, upstairs at Portneuf Valley Brewing, 615 S. First Ave., Pocatello.

The Idaho State University chapter of Sigma Xi Science Research Society is sponsoring the event, billed as its first Science Café of 2010.
