ISU student Lisa Johnson receives ADEA/Crest Oral-B Scholarship

The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) will present Lisa M. Johnson, student at the Idaho State University, with the ADEA/Crest Oral-B Scholarship for Dental Hygiene Students Pursuing Academic Careers on March 2 during the 2010 ADEA Annual Session and Exhibition in Washington, D.C.

Johnson is only one of two dental hygiene students nationally to receive the ADEA/Crest Oral-B Scholarship. (more…)

A party so big only the dome can hold it! Medicine Ball benefit set April 1 at ISU

Save the date April 1, no fooling… come have a ball!

The Idaho State University Family Medicine Residency Program will host the "Medicine Ball" in Holt Arena, a casual evening of delicious food, no-host bars and live music.

The event will feature four bands and 30 restaurants.  Participants can enjoy the sounds of "Slapdash,"  "Band on Demand," "Elvis Has Left the Building" and "Somewhere in the Middle."

Dining options include fine dining at "Canopy's Restaurant" by Chartwells, 6 p.m., $100 per person; casual dining at "Tavern on the Turf," 6:30 p.m., $35 per person; or "Cookie's Place" for dessert and dancing, 8 p.m., $10. The masters of ceremony are Mike Sanders, Naeem Rahim and Fahim Rahim (the "Drs. Food availability plays major role in obesity note studies by Idaho State University professor Rasmussen

The obesity epidemic cannot be blamed on people's genetic makeup, but can be pinned to environmental factors, suggests a variety of studies by Idaho State University associate professor of psychology Erin Rasmussen.

Rasmussen, with the help of ISU undergraduate and graduate students, is studying the epidemic from several different angles and has also completed some studies of drugs that may someday be used in the United States to fight the malady.

"There has been an increase in prevalence of obesity the last 30 years, although those rates have begun to level off a bit," Rasmussen said. "It's a problem globally, too, not just here in the United States. The increase in obesity rates appears to be caused by environmental factors." (more…)

Idaho State University Campaign College Feb. 19 to empower students to run for office

Idaho State University was selected as one of 10 Campaign College sites in the United States and will offer a day-long training Friday, Feb. 19, which teaches young women and men on how to run for and win student government positions at their schools.

The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Rendezvous Conference Suite in the Idaho State University Rendezvous Complex. (more…)

Idaho State University partners with U.S. Census Bureau to achieve a complete, accurate 2010 Census

Idaho State University is committed to its partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau to achieve a complete and accurate count of the U.S. population in 2010. The partnership is part of a larger effort by the Census Bureau to increase participation in the 2010 Census.
