“I think it is an honor and I am proud to have been chosen,” said Nilson, who has been on the NSSA’s board of directors for more than 10 years.
The NSSA is a national interdisciplinary association devoted to interaction among social scientists through its conferences, seminars and publications.
The association was founded in 1983 and has become one of the largest interdisciplinary educational associations in the United States. The NSSA publishes the National Social Science Journal.
As president, Nilson will be involved in making policy for the organization. He will write for the association’s newsletter and other publications, and will preside over business meetings, including the group’s annual conference.
“One of the things I like about the group is its interdisciplinary nature,” Nilson said. “Although I love to go to meetings with fellow political scientists, it is nice to have other perspectives, from those of educators to those of economists and other social science disciplines. Just in terms of my intellectual orientation, I’m a big believer in interdisciplinary collaborations and research, belonging to a social science organization is consistent with that.”
