ISU Coming Events: January 27-February 10

The Idaho State University Office of Marketing and Communications distributes this event calendar to let the public and media know about upcoming non-athletic events at the University. This information is intended for release in print and broadcast events calendars. Various events calendars with more complete information are available online at the website www.isu.edu/calendar. Friday, January 27

Participants needed for diabetes research: The Institute of Rural Health at Idaho State University is interested in recruiting participants for a study involving couples and diabetes-related lifestyle changes. If either you or your partner has Type I or Type II diabetes, please consider participating in this convenient and important study. Benefits of participation include free information about diabetes from a certified diabetes educator, $50-$75 worth of gift cards, and the opportunity to assist researchers in advancing diabetes treatment. If you and your partner are interested, please contact Fritz Schoepflin by phone at 282-4961, or by email at schofred@isu.edu. Choir Performance at the Eli M. Oboler Library: Idaho State University Eli M. Oboler Library will host “A Fine Romance: Jewish Songwriters, American Songs” featuring Century High School Choir performing music by iconic Jewish songwriters such as Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein on Jan. 27 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Documentary “Rodgers and Hammerstein: The Sound of Movies” showing: Temple Emanuel, the Pocatello Jewish Community Center, will hold a viewing of the lively documentary "Rodgers and Hammerstein: The Sound of Movies" on Sat., Jan. 28, at 7 p.m. The film will be followed by a panel discussion and refreshments. All members of the community are invited for this free event. This is one of the featured events celebrating the Idaho State University Oboler Library's hosting of the touring exhibit "A Fine Romance: Jewish Songwriters 1910-1965," which runs through Feb. 24."The Sound of Movies" is a comprehensive and entertaining 97-minute documentary filmed in 1996 surveying the film career of the beloved songwriting team. ISU Day of Percussion: The Idaho State University Music Department will hold ISU Day of Percussion on Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. in Goranson Hall. This event is free and open to the public. For more information contact the music department at 282-3636.

Season of note to present Celtic Nights: Journey of Hope: Idaho State University’s Season of Note will present Celtic Nights: Journey of Hope on Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jensen Grand Concert Hall inside the Stephens Performing Arts Center. ISU Theatre and Dance to present “Bully: A Children’s Reader Theatre”: Idaho State University Theatre and Dance Department will present “Bully: A Children’s Reader Theatre” on Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bistline Theatre inside the Stephens Performing Arts Center. Friday, February 3

ISU Student Nurses Association Nursing Recruitment and Job Fair: The Idaho State University Student Nurses Association Nursing Recruitment and Job Fair will be held. Feb. 3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pond Student Union. All nurses and nursing students nearing graduation are invited to attend. It is scheduled to be held in the PSUB Wood River Suites. Saturday, February 4

Idaho State University National Girls and Women Sports Day registration: The event is scheduled from 8 to 11:30 a.m. at the ISU Reed Gymnasium. " This is the 13th year ISU has hosted this event. Idaho State University’s celebration will include sport and activity clinics for girls grades K-6. Advance registration is $12 per participant on a first-come basis. There is a limit of 400 girls. ISU Jazz Fest: The Idaho State University Music Department will hold ISU Jazz Fest concert featuring the Ed Soph Trio and ISU Jazz I Big Band on Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jensen Grand Concert Hall inside the Stephens Performing Arts Center.
