This national day has been proclaimed by Congress each year since 1987, and is honored annually the first week of February. National Girls and Women in Sports Day recognizes the progress of girls and women in sports, and the benefits that sport and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. "Girls in Sports, An Investment in the Future" is the national theme for this year's day and serves to acknowledge the importance of sport participation for women and girls.
ISU's celebration will include sport/activity clinics for girls grades K-6. Advanced registration is $12 per entry on a first-come basis. There is a limit of 300 girls. The registration deadline is Wednesday Feb. 6.
Check-in and on-site registration will take place beginning at 8 a.m. in the ISU Reed Gym lobby. On-site registration is $15 per girl. Girls will participate in three different sport/activity clinics, one every hour.
The event is offered in coordination with various ISU student groups and departments including the Idaho State University Physical Education Major's Club - SHEPERD's (Students of Health Education, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance), the College of Education, the Graduate School, the Departments of Sport Science and Physical Education, Health and Nutrition Sciences, Campus Recreation, Department of Athletics and Your Local Girl Scouts of the Silver Sage Council.
