ISU retired employees will celebrate 10th annual reunion Oct. 17 at Juniper Hills Country Club

This year will mark the tenth annual reunion of Idaho State University's retired employees. It will be Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Juniper Hills Country Club. All retired ISU faculty and staff and spouses as well as spouses of deceased retirees are invited to attend.
   

No-host social activities start at 5:30 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 7 p.m. (read more…)

Idaho State University-Meridian is sponsoring a Free Community Health Screening for uninsured adults Thursday, Oct. 3.

Idaho State University Division of Health Sciences takes aim at Gem State’s health care challenges

Without a medical school, Idaho ranks 50th in the nation in physicians per capita.  Rural areas, particularly, are underserved and those communities are over-represented with elderly patients who are most in need of health care services.

"Just getting to the doctor is not an easy thing for many Idahoans," said Rex W. Force, PharmD, associate dean for clinical research for the ISU Division of Health Sciences Idaho Center for Health Research and director of the ISU Family Medicine Clinical Research Center. "In many instances, we have to look at how we can better utilize the rest of the health care team that, frankly, we do train here at ISU. We have to study those challenges and look at ways of implementing cost-effective health care that works in all areas of the state." (read more…)

Idaho State University Red Hill closed area extended, barrier wall to be constructed

The closed area on Idaho State University’s Red Hill below the giant “I” has been expanded and construction of a safety barrier "fall fence" or wall below the "I" will begin soon.

"The University is moving as quickly as possible to address the safety concerns caused by the erosion of Red Hill below and around the 'I,'" said Arthur C. Vailas, ISU President. "We are asking for cooperation from the entire community to respect the trail closures and stay off the closed areas of Red Hill because of the safety risk." (read more…)

Idaho State University among regional 13-university partnership led by UNLV to put ‘bench-to-bedside’ research into practice

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) announced a five-year, $20.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to lead a health research network of 13 universities across the Mountain West, including Idaho State University.

The University of Nevada School of Medicine will partner on the grant that was announced on Sept. 18. 

The Clinical Translational Research Infrastructure Network (CTR-IN) will expand the capacity of partner institutions across seven states to put clinical research into practice to address regional health concerns including access to care, cancer, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular and infectious diseases.

Rex Force, PharmD, associate dean for clinical research for the Idaho State University Division of Health Sciences Idaho Center for Health Research, said he is excited about the grant and what it means for ISU and the residents of Idaho. (read more…)

‘Harvest Your Potential’ 2013 series offered to ISU students

Idaho State University Central Academic Advising will present the third annual semester-long student success and retention series, "Harvest Your Potential."

This program consists of student success and career development presentations and activities. Students who participate in eight or more of these events throughout the semester, including one fair and a meeting with both an academic advisor and career counselor, will be invited to an end-of-semester student recognition event featuring food and giveaways on Dec. 5.  Attendance at these events will be verified through a punch card, which is available at Central Academic Advising and the Student Success Center. Idaho State University to host Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions Nov. 16

Idaho State University will host the Metropolitan Opera National Council district audition, which is the preliminary tryout for the most prestigious opera company in the United States, on Nov. 16. 

The auditions, open to public, will be held Saturday, Nov. 16, beginning at 1 p.m., in the Joseph C. and Cheryl H. Jensen Grand Concert Hall of the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center. This is the second time these auditions, for the Metropolitan Opera's Eastern Washington, Idaho and Montana District, have been held in Idaho. (read more…)
