The "Boss"

Jerry has been the General Manager of KISU radio since Thanksgiving of 1999. He is a native of southeast Idaho and cut his public radio teeth when he was an intern to Bruce Christensen at BYU. Christensen later went on to become the President and CEO of the Public Broadcasting System (PBS).

His career includes over 23 years in commercial radio, nine of those as news director for KLCE (Classy 97 in east Idaho), and four years at KSL Radio in Salt Lake City, Utah. With experience broadcasting games for the Utah Jazz of the NBA and numerous high schools and universities, he was named the Idaho Sportscaster of the Year in 1985. Jerry is entering his 15th year as the voice of ISU men's basketball and football, and he also was the voice of ISU women's basketball for seven seasons. He has also won numerous awards for his work as a news and sports reporter.

Jerry says the best thing about being at KISU is the opportunity to work with some great students. Under Miller's direction, KISU increased its broadcast power from 410 watts to 4500 watts, a task that took over three years to complete, and in 2008 expanded its coverage into the Idaho Falls market with the purchase of a radio translator there, broadcasting KISU's signal at 91.3. He says he will continue to work to make KISU-FM one of the most effective tools Idaho State University has in its role of serving not only eastern Idaho, but the entire state.

Station Profile

Eastern Idaho'’s Ear to the World

On June 4, 1999, KISU-FM radio signed on the air for the first time with a tiny broadcast power of just 450 watts, barely making a ripple in the east Idaho radio world. Today with transmitters in both Pocatello, Idaho Falls and Rexburg, KISU broadcasts to a potential audience of almost 200,000 residents and an ever-growing number of public radio fans. KISU consistently has more listeners than many commercial stations in the market. KISU is also well-known for promoting local cultural and public affairs events through partnerships with Idaho State University, the Idaho State Civic Symphony, the Idaho Falls Arts Council, the City Club of Idaho Falls and other similar organizations.

On that day in June of 1999, all of KISU's programs came from outside sources like National Public Radio (NPR), Public Radio International (PRI), along with many other independent program producers. In other words, there was no local programming on KISU at that time. Today KISU provides not only the best of traditional public radio programming, but also produces between 20-to-30 hours of local radio programming every week covering news, public affairs, and a wide range of eclectic musical genres. Also meeting the needs of Idaho State University students, who provide a major portion of funding for the station, along with about 15% of KISU's funding coming from local businesses and organizations, KISU also broadcasts live ISU women's soccer, volleyball and basketball events throughout the school year. Our 14,000+ weekly listeners are successful and well-educated, and their attitudes toward businesses and organizations which support the station they love are very favorable.

KISU-FM is a dynamic, program-driven format of national, regional and local shows lending itself to listeners staying tuned in for long periods of time. Loyal listeners mean great potential customers. Long standing public radio news and information standards like Morning Edition; On Point; Talk of the Nation; All Things Considered and Car Talk are joined by entertainment excellence with the World Café; Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me and the Prairie Home Companion. Visit online for the entire lineup.
