Find computers and computer labs

Labs: There are many computer labs on the Pocatello campus and in other ISU locations. See Lab Information for all computer lab locations.

Library Computers:

You do not have to have a computer account to use a library computer, but you will need a valid Bengal ID number to login. Non-ISU users can sign up at the Circulation Desk to use one of the visitors' stations.

You will need a computer account to use the lab computers on the second floor.

What are the differences between library computers and lab computers?

Programs (Software)

Library computers have Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint installed on them, as well as Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Chrome. Some library computers have specialized databases loaded on to them that can only be used there. Library computers do not have ISU course software loaded on them.

Computer Lab computers have all these programs (excluding the databases), plus Microsoft Access and Publisher, software for ISU courses, audio and video media players, and more. See the complete list of programs to see everything that's available.


Printing from a library computer costs .10 for a single-sided black and white copy; color copies are available.

Lab computers offer free printing for the first 30 pages, then .10¢ per page for additional pages. For more information about printing from lab computers, see Printing in Labs' Rules and Prices.

Saving your work

If you log off of a library computer, your work will be lost unless you save your work to a disk or to the T drive (Thawed Space) on that computer.

Where can I find Internet computers for visitors?

Visitors to the ISU Library who are not current faculty, staff, or students, will need to sign up at the Circulation Desk to use one of the library's visitor Internet computers. In order to sign up, you will need to present a photo ID. Because our computers are not filtered, age restrictions do apply. You will be limited to one hour on the computers per day.

Connect to databases from off-campus

The Eli M. Oboler Library web site and Library Catalog are freely available to any Internet user. However, some online databases are available only for ISU students, faculty, and staff.

On the complete list of databases and on each of the Research Guides, the accessibility information for each database is included in the far right column of the chart. Clicking on any of these notes will take you to a more detailed explanation. Off-campus students and faculty will be able to use any database that has "On and Off Campus", and all users can access databases with "Unrestricted" in the accessibility column.

To use a database, just click on the name of the database. You will be prompted to login if necessary. Type in your ISU ISU ID Number and Last Name (as the Library has it in your active Patron record) and you will then be taken right into the database. If you have any problems logging in, please call the HelpDesk (208) 282-4357 for help with ISU ID Numbers and call the Circulation Desk at (208) 282-3248 for any assistance with last name.

How can I get help with problems?

Off-campus users may be prompted to login to some library services. Unless otherwise noted, you use your ISU ID Number and Last Name for accessing databases and electronic journals. If otherwise noted, you may need to call the library's Reference Desk at (208) 282-3152 or Health Sciences Library at (208) 282-4686 for login information.

Access the wireless network

In order to connect your laptop to the ISU wireless network, you must have a current ISU computer account. Your laptop must have a compatible wireless card and the card must be registered at the Computer Center. To register your wireless card, go to the Help Desk window in the basement of the Business Building in person and present your wireless device and ISU ID.

Forward my ISU email

All registered students are assigned an ISU email account. Library and other campus communications are sent to you using your university-assigned email account. You can set up an alias in your ISU email account that will automatically forward all email messages sent to your @isu.edu email account to your preferred non-ISU email account.

To set up this email forwarding, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to http://google.isu.edu/ (log in using the username and password for your ISU email account).
  2. Click on "Settings."
  3. Click on "Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab".
  4. Enter the email address that you would like your messages forwarded to.
  5. Select the action you'd like your messages to take from the drop-down menu. You can choose to keep Gmail's copy of the message in your inbox, or you can send it automatically to ALL Mail or Trash.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Make copies, prints, and photocopies

Photocopiers are available on the first floor in the student lounge and on the third floor.
