ISU-Meridian’s Judy Thorne and Boise physician Margaret Doucette to deliver keynote at 2012 Research Day on Friday, March 16

Feb. 21, 2012

HIV/Viral Hepatitis Educator Judy Thorne and Dr. Margaret Doucette will discuss their experiences working with children in the Nsumba orphanage  near Kampala, Uganda.

Their presentation, titled “Idaho to Uganda: Crossing Boundaries to Public Health,” will begin at  8:45 a.m. in Room 697 of the ISU-Meridian Health Science Center, 1311 E. Central Drive. It’ll be broadcast to the North Fork and Middle Fork rooms of the Pond Student Union on the Pocatello campus.

Thorne and Doucette are members of a medical team that traveled to the orphanage last summer and in early February to evaluate the medical conditions of the children and assess their immediate needs. Thorne is planning a third trip in summer. Several ISU-Meridian faculty members and health science students plan to accompany her.

“2012 Research Day: Crossing the Boundaries through the Disciplines” is sponsored by the ISU Division of Health Sciences and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

At 10:30 a.m., faculty and students will present research posters in ISU-Meridian’s east hallway and in the Pond Student Union Ballroom.  For more information contact Tara Johnson at
