Letter from the President

September 11, 2013

Dear Friend of Idaho State University,

It's fall again, and the colors in Pocatello are turning orange and black.

Every year, as I see a new generation of students come through the Swanson Arch, beginning the next chapter in their educational journey, I am reminded about the many reasons I love Idaho State University.

Our students are smart, driven and ready to take on challenges. Over the summer, fellow Bengals were living, working and learning around the world. In Washington, D.C., students were working as interns at the Smithsonian, cataloguing artifacts that had not been catalogued before. Other students stayed on campus in laboratories, discovering new methods of studying bacteria, building research that could change the way people look at common diseases.

I hope that many of you have had the opportunity to visit campus recently. In the quiet hours of summer, thanks to a generous donation from the Wheatley family, Idaho State University facilities staff members planted trees, built gathering places and made other aesthetic improvements to make campus a more welcoming place for students, family and alumni.

I'm encouraged by the increasing spirit and support I see each year from our students, faculty, staff and, especially, the community. At this year's annual Welcome Back Orange and Black celebration, local businesses came together to offer a fun afternoon for the campus community. More than 1,000 students, faculty and staff attended the celebration, and more than 60 local businesses welcomed them. This spring, I look forward to welcoming the community for the annual Celebrate Idaho State celebration, where we share our knowledge and services with the community.

If you haven't been to Idaho State University recently, I would encourage you to come for a visit. We love to share the great research and learning that is happening here at Idaho State University.

Go Bengals!
