This quick video will walk you through the steps schedule a Writing Center appointment.
Appointments are usually necessary to assure time with a writing tutor, although it's sometimes possible to meet with a tutor on a walk-in basis. During the peak weeks of the semester, you may want to make your appointment in our online book a full week ahead to make sure you can get a time that works for you.
When you come in for your appointment, bring anything you have that's related to your writing project. If the teacher gave you a written assignment, bring it with you; if you wrote the assignment down in your notes, bring them. If your paper refers to specific books or articles, it's usually helpful to bring them, too...as well as any drafts or brainstorming you may already have done. The more we know about what you're working on, the more we can help!
You are welcome to make Writing Center appointments for up to 2 hours a week, for a maximum of one hour per day, so long as tutors are available. Appointments with students working on assignments of 1-4 pages are normally half an hour long, but hour long appointments can be made for longer assignments.
If you are more than 5 minutes late for an appointment, you may lose it and have to reschedule for a later time. If you find you won't be able to keep an appointment, please call to CANCEL AT LEAST FOUR HOURS BEFORE it is scheduled so someone else can use that time slot.
If you're running late for an appointment in Pocatello, call (208) 282-3662; in Idaho Falls, call (208) 282-7925.
The bad news....
- If you make an appointment and don't show up for it three times, you may not make another appointment for the rest of the term. You can still use the Center as a "walk-in" if tutors are available.
- If you cancel an appointment with less than 4 hours' notice three times, you may not make another appointment for the rest of the term. You can still use the Center as a "walk-in" if tutors are available.
- Any combination of three no-shows or late cancellations will result in the loss of your appointment privileges for the semester. You can still use the Center as a "walk-in" if tutors are available.
